Job Summary
Field Engineer (Mechanical) acts as the Owner's Representative in the field to support quality, commissioning, and construction execution on large industrial and mission-critical projects. Provides technical oversight of mechanical systems installation, startup, testing, and commissioning, ensuring contractor and Commissioning Agent performance aligns with project requirements, design intent, and owner expectations. Works in complex environments such as data centers and advanced manufacturing facilities, coordinating with stakeholders to identify issues, mitigate risk, and ensure systems are installed, tested, and commissioned per project objectives. Key duties include monitoring installations for compliance, validating commissioning execution, supporting equipment startup and functional testing, reviewing test scripts and deficiency reports, coordinating issue resolution, participating in commissioning and project meetings, tracking progress, verifying testing activities (TAB, pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, functional testing), and promoting safe work practices. Must be proficient in reading drawings and specifications, P&IDs, and submittal documentation, with OSHA 10 certification prior to site arrival and strong communication skills across multiple project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- OSHA 10 certification prior to site arrival
- 3–5 years of experience supporting mechanical construction, commissioning, QA/QC, or field engineering activities
- Experience on industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, or large commercial construction projects
- Working knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, plumbing, process piping, or related mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and submittal documentation
- Familiarity with commissioning processes, startup procedures, and system turnover requirements
- Strong communication and coordination skills across multiple project stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- Experience with data centers, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical projects (preferred)
- Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent field experience (preferred)
- Experience with Owner's Representatives, Commissioning Agents, or construction management teams (preferred)
- Familiarity with ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and industry best practices (preferred)
- Experience using ACC, CxAlloy, Procore, BIM 360, or similar platforms (preferred)
- Exposure to integrated systems testing and operational readiness programs (preferred)
- Experience supporting owner turnover and project closeout activities (preferred)
