Job Summary

Conduct preventative and corrective electrical maintenance and testing in electrical substations and network vaults while providing technical support for operator mechanics. Investigate problems, work with equipment manufacturers to resolve issues, and make repairs using specified tools and materials. Lead and perform field work activities, ensuring adherence to safety rules, tagging procedures, and permit processes. Respond to emergency situations outside normal hours as part of the Emergency Restoration assignment. Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering education as evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Science (BSECE) or a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Technology (BSET)
  • Must be able to effectively conduct work activities with regard to the work of others such as engineers or others working on the same projects; personnel of other departments; representatives of consulting engineering firms, municipalities, other utilities, manufacturers, customers, contractors; and contractors' employees engaged in related activities
  • It will be essential for Field Engineers engaged in certain activities involving other departments to acquire familiarity with any applicable rules and procedures established by those departments such as 'Permit' procedures, Tagging procedures, Safety Rules and procedures, System Operating Department routines, etc.
  • Must ensure that all proper tools, equipment, and material are specified for job assignments
  • Must be able to lead and perform preventative and corrective electrical maintenance and testing
  • Must provide technical support for Operator Mechanics performing electrical maintenance and substation construction
  • Must be self-learners and investigate problems and work with equipment manufacturers to resolve issues and make repairs
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations to meet customers' needs
  • Must be available for emergency restoration assignments outside of normal responsibilities, work hours and location
  • Must be able to take ownership & accountability

  • An aptitude for research and for repairing electrical controls and associated equipment
