Job Summary
Field Engineer provides on-site and remote technical assistance globally to internal and external customers and supports field projects, training classes, corporate manufacturing facilities, Product Line Management, and Commercial Sales/Marketing. Responsibilities include mastering optical test and splice equipment, traveling to customer sites to install, test, and document fiber optic systems; acting as a Project Leader coordinating fiber optic network installations; instructing fiber optic training courses at Corning locations and customer sites; providing technical assistance via the Technical Support Line; conducting on-site investigations of potential product issues; serving as the primary means of field remediation for quality issues; conducting product evaluations; gathering competitive information for Product Line Management, Manufacturing, and Sales/Marketing; making recommendations to solve quality and field-related problems; coordinating travel and logistics; sharing technical knowledge at manufacturing facilities; and providing global technical support. Requires a Bachelor of Science in a technical field, may consider related subjects, and prefers Engineering degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or related areas. Will require travel up to 75%, background checks, and ability to work at the Keller, TX location when not traveling. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field (Engineering or related disciplines preferred: Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Physics, Math, Computer Science)
- Willingness to travel up to 75%
- Must be able to obtain a U.S. Passport
- Must be able to pass background check, drug screening and driving record check
- Must not be color blind – color acuity required
- Must be able to lift parcels and equipment up to 50 lbs
- Must have a valid driver’s license and primary means of transportation for local travel
- Must be willing to remain in position for at least two years
- Fluent language skills in Spanish, French, or Portuguese a plus
- Must be able to work in various indoor and outdoor environments
