Job Summary

Draw, measure, and label improvements while gathering data on architectural style, construction, and component parts. Record material quality and workmanship to maintain property equalization by class, quality, and construction type. Obtain and analyze market cost, sales, and income data for land and improvements. Identify businesses throughout the year and evaluate personal property assets, including machinery, inventories, and equipment. Operate an automobile in the course of work, maintaining a daily mileage log. Justify and explain property values through communication with property owners and their representatives. Coordinate areas of responsibility with other Field Appraisers and Senior Appraisers while independently managing time to ensure productivity, accuracy, and timely completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must register with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Must progress through the courses and levels of an appraiser as required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Must know or be able to learn, retain and recall: Appraisal practices and procedures
  • Must know or be able to learn, retain and recall: Basic accounting, auditing and economic principles
  • Must know or be able to learn, retain and recall: Tax law and other laws pertaining to ownership of property
  • Must know or be able to learn, retain and recall: Map reading
  • Must know or be able to learn, retain and recall: Computer systems (Microsoft office, computer-assisted mass appraisal software, etc.)
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must have the ability to maintain an effective relationship with other employees and a professional demeanor when dealing with property owners or their representatives
  • Must be able to work and produce on your own while making independent decisions based on knowledge and experience
  • Must be of good character with complete integrity and mature judgment

Desired Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Registered Professional Appraiser (RPA) designation
  • Relevant experience
