Job Summary
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain Outside Plant fiber optic systems for businesses, homes, and schools while measuring signal strength and creating splicing schematics. Perform regular inspections to locate defects, run cables above and underground, and construct proper splice cases with grounding and sealing. Prepare engineering field notes, interpret buried facilities on maps, and build graphical worksheets for contractors using Visio. Support the NTIA Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program and upcoming BEAD project by adhering to industry standards and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to drive with manual gear shift
- One year of experience in telephone installation and repair and Outside Plant operations, to include fiber optic cable splicing and repair
- 1 -3 years of experience in construction with Outside Plant Telecom Engineering
- Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
