Job Summary
Install and repair fiber optics, perform splicing, and test networks using OTDRs in aerial, underground, and inside plant environments. Prepare splice locations, construct closures, and operate bucket trucks to drive and set up safety perimeters. Flag traffic, clean and maintain equipment, and submit daily time cards and audit sheets. Provide direction and training to laborers while troubleshooting fiber issues and completing cut sheets. Work flexible hours including nights and weekends, adhering to all safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position
- A good driving record is required
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
- Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders)
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- Knowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers associated
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include nights and weekends
- Understanding of terminology used in fiber splicing
- Experience splicing fiber including all necessary steps
- 2-3 years' experience splicing fiber
- Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry
- Able to perform all duties in fiber optic construction
- Ability to travel
