Job Summary
Fiber Splicer responsible for installing new fiber cable (underground and on utility poles), maintaining and repairing existing cables. Responsibilities include prep and splice of fiber optic cables using fusion splicer and fiber test equipment, installing/maintaining transmission/reception equipment for FTTH, maintaining private-line networks, initiating test/turn-up procedures with System Engineers, collecting/interpreting engineering docs (schematics, fiber management, OTDR reports), supporting field maintenance teams, providing preventive maintenance, maintaining network documentation, troubleshooting MDF/headend issues with third-party providers, and working with the engineering team to ensure specs are met. Role requires on-call rotation and on-site work in Tampa, FL, with a focus on fiber network reliability and detailed documentation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent required
- 3 years hands-on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment & restoration
- Proficiency with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment
- Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
- Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDRs, optical power meters and other fiber testing equipment as required
- SCTE certification a plus
- Active and clean, non-restrictive state-issued driver’s license in State where hired
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
- Ability to work days, weekends, evenings and holidays and participate with on-call rotation as needed
- Experience with installation and maintenance of FTTH networks
- Ability to collect and interpret engineering documentation including schematics and OTDR reports
- Ability to troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd party providers
- Ability to work within an engineering team to ensure connections meet specifications
