Job Summary
Fiber Maintenance Technician responsible for splicing fiber optic cables (loose tube and ribbon) including butt splice, mid-span, and cabinet splicing; construct splice cases (grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, sealing); create splice matrix/fiber assignments; maintain splicing records, diagrams, and schematics; read and follow design engineers’ instructions; perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot route issues; must be able to work outdoors in varying weather; proficient with fiber tools and test equipment (OTDR, fusion splicer, power meter, optical light source); GIS/AutoCAD/ESRI/shape file knowledge; strong organizational and multitasking skills; requires valid driver’s license; reports to Network Maintenance Supervisor; role emphasizes an upper-level technician with prior experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must hold a valid driver’s license
- Experience in fiber optic splicing
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather
- Familiar with GIS and AutoCAD/ESRI/shape files
- Knowledge of FTTH Infrastructure and related materials
- Proficient with OTDR, fusion splicer, optical light source, and power meter
