Job Summary
Locate underground fiber optic cables using specialized equipment and mark their positions on the ground to prevent accidental damage during excavation. Conduct field surveys to gather data on cable locations and conditions, then coordinate with construction crews and engineers to communicate findings clearly. Maintain detailed records of inspections and assist technicians in diagnosing and resolving cable issues. Ensure all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines are followed while operating and maintaining fiber locator tools. Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds in varying outdoor weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to accurately locate and mark fiber optic lines
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to perform tasks such as digging, lifting, and walking long distances
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to follow safety protocols and regulatory guidelines
- Ability to work closely with construction crews, utility workers, and engineers
- Ability to maintain detailed records of fiber optic cable locations, inspections, and any identified issues or damages
- Ability to assist in diagnosing issues with fiber optic cables
- Ability to ensure that fiber locator tools and other equipment are maintained in good working order
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as hot, cold, or wet weather
- Ability to travel to different locations within the service area
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction, telecommunications, or a similar field
- Knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure
- Knowledge of utility locating equipment
- Knowledge of basic GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping
- Technical certifications or specialized training in fiber optics
