Fiber Field Technician II - Carlsbad, NM

Job Summary
Conduct fiber optic cable installation, maintenance, and repair in outside plant locations, including pole climbing, underground services, and conduit work. Perform cable stripping, cleaving, terminating, splicing, and testing using specialized equipment such as OTDRs and splicers. Operate bucket trucks and manage worksite housekeeping while adhering to safety protocols for energized and confined spaces. This role reports to the Project Manager - Fiber Optics and focuses on improving operational efficiency in communications and power spaces. Candidates must be comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet and in various weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be comfortable working at elevated heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision
- Ability to inspect, operate, and mobilize a bucket truck
- Ability to apply technical expertise, evaluate problems and implement best practices
- Possess verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism
- Compute basic math calculations and take measurements
- Ability to read and execute network drawings and splicing diagrams
- Familiar with Microsoft Software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio
- Able to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
- Climb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spaces
- Able to walk long distances
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- This position requires the completion of a thorough background and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- In accordance with The Company's Drug and Alcohol policy, employees are required to participate in random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested
Desired Qualifications
- 2-4 years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred
- Ability to identify independent colors and learn color codes
- Experience with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, cable puller, and reel stands preferred
- Small equipment experience preferred (i.e. forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)
- Flagger Certification preferred
