Job Summary
Fiber Construction Technician role performing outside plant construction and maintenance of buried and aerial fiber facilities. Responsibilities include installing and repairing fiber lines, operating trenchers/plows/excavators, setting pedestals/vaults/handholes, climbing poles and using bucket trucks, supporting fiber splicing/repair, labeling project sites, and using dispatching tools for coordination. Requires valid driver's license and DOT eligibility; 6+ months in customer service/utility construction/technical certification or military service; willingness to work overtime and varied shifts; CDL training available; training includes safety, pole climbing, bucket trucks, fusion splicing basics, OTDR, and equipment operation. Required Qualifications
- 6+ months experience in customer service, electrical or utility construction, -OR-technical certification (or higher) -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements
- Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL (in-house training available)
- Ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures; kneel, dig, lift
- Ability to work OT and varied shifts; travel may be required
- Physical ability to perform tasks up to 50 pounds regularly (over 100 occasionally)
- Experience with fiber installation, splicing, and testing; familiarity with LAD/locating equipment
- Knowledge of safety standards and construction site protocols
- Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Military service (current or prior) acceptable
- Horizontal directional drilling experience preferred
