Job Summary

Fellow, Sustainable Community Development with the NAACP Empowerment Programs leads as a content expert for the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice, developing strategic programming and contributing to the Center’s direction. Responsibilities include acting as an ambassador in the field, collaborating with the Center Director on pillars like disaster resiliency, sustainable communities, zero emissions, and energy justice; establishing processes for campaigns, initiatives, and projects; coordinating reporting and grant-funded work; managing meetings and administrative needs; writing original research briefs, public comments, reports, and website content; providing technical and research support; fostering partnerships with foundations, governmental agencies, and other organizations; and supporting continuous improvement and strategy. Requires experience in environmental and climate justice, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to engage diverse audiences. The role involves Washington, DC, and remote work, moderate travel, and exempt status.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in relevant fields (environmental and climate justice, non-profit, legal, policy, advocacy, or civil rights organizations)
  • Experience in engaging external partnerships and collaborations with foundations, non-profits, corporations, and other key communities
  • Demonstrated background in coordinating complex advocacy strategy
  • Proven background in project management and grant reporting
  • Proven ability to support innovative research projects and engage with broad diverse audiences
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage teams and coordinate multiple initiatives
