Job Summary
Conduct identification and treatment of sick and injured animals while managing treatment records and monitoring animal health metrics. Perform and oversee post-mortem examinations, laboratory procedures, and medicating patients. Train feedyard doctors and cowboys on surgical techniques, animal handling best practices, and Beef Quality Assurance certification. Assist with cattle sorting, facility maintenance, and inventory management for medicines and vaccines. Work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment requiring fluency in English and Spanish, the ability to lift 100 lbs, and willingness to work alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or on-call duty. Relocation to Kansas is required for this role.
Required Qualifications
- Must be willing to relocate to Kansas
- 3+ years experience as a pen rider
- Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field
- Licensed Veterinary Technician
- Bovine veterinary skills
- Animal husbandry
- Animal disease prevention and control
- Understanding of the modes of action of antimicrobials, anthelmintics, and anaesthetics
- Competence in common, minor surgical techniques
- Knowledge of post-mortem examination and diagnosis
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- General computer knowledge
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish, as determined by the Staff Veterinarian
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. regularly
- Detail oriented to provide accurate and consistent work
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately
- Work independently and as a team member
- Heavy lifting, walking, long-term standing, climbing on and off equipment
- Subject to seasonal weather conditions
- May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or 'on-call-duty' to ensure hospital operations are sufficient
- Must be able to properly deal with Livestock accidents, moving machinery, contaminated medical equipment, vehicular and livestock traffic
