Job Summary
Federal Acquisition Subject Matter Expert at Appian based in McLean, VA. Act as the strategic bridge between U.S. Federal procurement and Appian’s Government Acquisition Management suite; translate FAR/DFARS and DoD procurement workflows into software requirements; influence product roadmap with regulatory changes; provide expert guidance during design reviews and testing; represent Appian in acquisition communities and collaborate with Sales and Marketing to illustrate value to senior government leaders. Requires 10+ years federal contracting, 7+ years as a Contracting Officer within the Department of War, DoD 1102 experience, FAR/DFARS mastery, DoD certification, and a Bachelor's Degree, with in-office work five days/week.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of federal contracting experience
- 7+ years serving as a Contracting Officer within the Department of War
- Recent DoD 1102 experience with mission-first procurement environments
- Mastery of FAR and DFARS including DoD-unique procurement requirements
- Ability to translate complex acquisition rules, policies, and workflows into practical guidance for technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience delivering thought leadership (presentations, articles, panels, or speaking at industry events)
- Strong executive presence and ability to communicate with Product, Engineering, Sales, and senior leaders
- High technical curiosity and comfort learning how software platforms transform data and workflows into actionable procurement intelligence
- Understanding of how AI can be applied to federal acquisition, procurement modernization, or contract management
- Bachelor’s Degree
- DoD Contracting Professional Certification or DAWIA Level II/III with relevant recent experience
- Familiarity with software development lifecycles or Agile methodologies (a plus)
