Job Summary
Supervise and work with high school students in the fashion classroom and lab, providing small group or individual instruction while establishing a positive learning environment. Assist the program instructor by communicating effectively with students, staff, and the public, and implement behavioral management strategies to maximize student potential. Organize and prepare instructional materials, maintain accurate program records, and administer scoring for formal and informal tests. Perform inventory processes, coordinate lab activities, and attend training sessions to maintain up-to-date understanding of the fashion trade. Complete required state training and participate in professional development or industry-specific courses.
Required Qualifications
- Apparel pattern, construction, and alteration knowledge experience (minimum of five (5) years)
- Working knowledge of operating and maintaining sewing machines to include industrial, home sewing, and serger sewing machines
- Knowledge of embroidery machines
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, customers, and parents
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups, to include high school students, customers, staff, and vendors
- Personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperation, confidentiality, and assertiveness
- Demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption
- Must possess organizational skills and the ability to follow through
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise work/lab activities
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate lab activities for students with limited supervision
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team
- Willingness to complete an 'Elements of Teaching' course
- Willingness to participate in professional development or the equivalent current-industry training and/or clock hours
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS)
- Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
- Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council)
- Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements
- Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperation, confidentiality, and assertiveness
- Demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption
