Job Summary
Anticipate and satisfy assigned clients' needs across the annual compliance cycle by developing strong relationships and serving as the regular point of contact for tax matters affecting individuals and trusts/estates. Plan, supervise, and complete multiple client engagements, balancing larger complex matters with smaller ones throughout the year while preparing and reviewing individual, fiduciary, and transfer tax returns. Identify and evaluate tax planning opportunities for high-income taxpayers and research federal and state tax matters impacting high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates. Supervise staff through training, mentoring, and regular feedback while participating in functional operations and business development to cultivate referral networks. Monitor new technical tax developments and assess their impact on clients and firm positions. This role sits within the Family Wealth Services Group at a top 25 Virginia public accounting firm, focusing on complex individual income, fiduciary, and gift/estate tax matters for a diverse client base including professionals, government contractors, and healthcare providers.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in public accounting or a professional tax environment
- at least 2-3 years focused on high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates
- Experience with tax compliance and planning including Forms 1040, 1041, 706, and 709
- Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA)
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with CCH Axcess products
- Familiarity with estate and trust administration
Additional Requirements
- Occasional non-local travel may be required no more than 5-10% of the year, depending on client base
