Family Support Specialist - Organ Donation - Donate Life

Job Summary

Support grieving families with compassion throughout the organ donation process, from initial referral to family follow-up. Lead donation conversations to obtain legal authorization from next of kin and coordinate huddles with hospital staff to establish a unified care plan. Honor cultural and religious beliefs during moments of grief while accurately completing written consent forms. Educate healthcare partners and the public on organ donation through outreach and training programs. Maintain confidentiality and comply with regulatory requirements set by AOPO, UNOS, and CMS. Requires a valid Wisconsin driver's license, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in social work, sociology, psychology, or related field
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Travel required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field
  • Associate's Degree in a related field and 1+ years of healthcare or community-based service experience
  • Associate's Degree in a related field and 1+ years of healthcare or community-based service experience, displaying strong communication skills and managing interpersonal dynamics, especially in challenging emotional situations
  • Associate's Degree in a related field and 1+ years of healthcare or community-based service experience, plus an additional 2+ years experience collaborating with patients or customers in challenging emotional situations
  • 3+ years required overall experience in lieu of required degree
  • 1-3 years previous healthcare or community-based service experience
  • Display compassion in written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills while engaging with grieving families
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks and strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work independently and within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide feedback to peers
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, able to communicate and collaborate with others during challenging and stressful situations
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License and access to a vehicle
  • Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine, scanner)
