Job Summary
Mentor family members and caregivers of individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders by providing supportive, skills-building services focused on rehabilitation and recovery. Deliver both face-to-face and virtual services onsite and offsite to connect clients with community-based recovery supports aligned with their treatment plans. Provide non-clinical support to empower families to manage loved ones' health and wellness while facilitating group sessions that teach coping, life, and wellness skills. Conduct pre-admission outreach and community partnerships, such as supporting Mobile Crisis Team responses, to engage individuals and families in care. Maintain accurate records and participate in required agency meetings. Requires a High School Diploma, New York State Peer Specialist Certification, and lived experience as a parent or caregiver navigating multiple systems. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Provisional New York State Peer Specialist Certification or Family Peer Advocates (FPAs) NYS Certification
- Demonstrates lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver who has navigated multiple systems on behalf of their family member with social, emotional, developmental and/or behavioral healthcare needs
- Must have knowledge in trauma-informed care and recovery in both SUD and mental health as a family member
- Ability to read and write
- Knowledge of computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook)
- Good communication skills
- Proven ability to work with people with behavioral health conditions
