Job Summary
Provide a secure, neutral environment for parents to learn positive interaction, social and emotional skills; assess parent/family social, emotional, and cognitive skills; teach parenting sessions based on curriculum and expertise; conduct parenting observations and give feedback on interaction skills; model appropriate social skills for parents and children; provide life skills education to increase parental capacity for positive family dynamics; teach parenting groups monthly; prepare timely monthly written reports; attend collateral meetings with counselors and referring agencies; develop and implement service plans with clients; coordinate with county workers, referring partners, and other stakeholders; facilitate meetings of families, professionals, and natural supports; collaborate with community partners; travel within a 15-mile radius for participant sites; evenings and weekends as needed; work in community settings and family homes; bilingual skills are valued but not required; requires a bachelor’s degree or two-year degree with related experience and 2-3 years in relevant fields; ability to work in diverse communities and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development, Child Psychology, Family Social Science, Special Education, or related human service field
- Two-year degree and two or more years of experience providing parenting services will also be considered
- Two to three years of experience in child development, abuse/neglect support services, or parent education
- Experience working with culturally and racially diverse populations in lower socio-economic conditions
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
- Ability to travel to participant sites within a 15-mile radius of the office
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with acceptable driving record
