Job Summary

Conduct patient care tasks including rooming, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and health screenings. Perform lab duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and CLIA-approved waived tests. Administer medications and vaccines safely while assisting providers with procedures. Complete administrative responsibilities like scheduling, insurance authorizations, and supply ordering. Maintain a clean environment and ensure equipment is stocked and functional. Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and department policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health's competency assessment
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
  • Ability to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures

Desired Qualifications

  • 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years
  • Structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification
  • American Allied Health (AAH) certification
  • National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA) certification
  • National Health Career Association (NHA) certification
  • (MCMA) certification
  • National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) certification
  • National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA) certification
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification
