Job Summary
Conduct patient care tasks including rooming, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and health screenings. Perform lab duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and CLIA-approved waived tests. Administer medications and vaccines safely while assisting providers with procedures. Complete administrative responsibilities like scheduling, insurance authorizations, and supply ordering. Maintain a clean environment and ensure equipment is stocked and functional. Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and department policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
- Successful completion of Atrium Health's competency assessment
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
- Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
- Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
- Ability to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years
- Structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification
- American Allied Health (AAH) certification
- National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA) certification
- National Health Career Association (NHA) certification
- (MCMA) certification
- National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) certification
- National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA) certification
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification
