Job Summary
Provide family peer support, education, and navigation assistance to families of individuals with mental health challenges. The FPSS will deliver one-to-one support, advocacy, coaching, information, referrals, and follow-up after training; must have lived experience as a parent or caregiver and reside in Somerset County. Duties include helping families navigate behavioral health, social, legal, educational, and health systems; conducting workshops; educating on residents’ rights; building partnerships with behavioral health and school systems; disseminating information about MCF programs; maintaining documentation; engaging families to build natural support networks; and staying informed on issues affecting families. Qualifications include familiarity with IEPs/504s, strong communication, public outreach, independence, and the ability to use Salesforce.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a parent or caregiver of someone with behavioral health challenges
- Must live in Somerset County
- Familiarity with state and local resources
- Prior experience assisting other families to obtain services and supports
- Familiarity and comfort with public speaking and conducting outreach to the community
- Ability to build and maintain productive partnerships with agencies and providers
- Active listening skills for providing non-judgmental peer support to families
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Strong computer skills and ability to use internet searches to identify resources
- Ability or willingness to learn how to use a database (Salesforce)
- Current Maryland driver's license and access to own vehicle; in-state travel required
- Successful completion of a background check
