Job Summary
The High School Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering standards-based instruction in FCS courses that prepare students with practical life, career, and technical skills. Responsibilities include developing instructional plans aligned with state curriculum standards and CTE requirements; teaching nutrition and wellness, culinary arts, child development, family studies, financial literacy, housing and interior design, career readiness, and consumer education; creating engaging classroom and laboratory experiences with hands-on learning; assessing student progress using formative and summative measures; utilizing instructional technology; maintaining a safe, organized learning environment; encouraging student leadership through Career and Technical Student Organizations; collaborating with colleagues, administrators, families, and community partners to support student success; providing career guidance and promoting post-secondary opportunities; participating in professional development and staying current on educational practices and state requirements; performing other duties as assigned. Knowledge and skills include adolescent development, classroom management, data-driven instruction, strong communication and collaboration, ability to work with diverse learners, and problem solving with data. Certification and experience requirements include South Carolina certification in FCS or valid certification with a strong GPA in relevant coursework, and experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices. Minimum prerequisites also include a valid driver’s license and potential travel to district buildings and meetings; pre-employment TB testing and background checks are noted. The role is full-time, 190 days, with standard school hours and expectations for after-hours planning and activities. Rock Hill Schools emphasizes equal opportunity employment.
Required Qualifications
