Job Summary
Youth Development Professional for an after-school program at Madison Elementary (San Leandro, CA). Create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for middle school youth; lead curriculum-based activities that promote academic success and social-emotional development; mentor youth, build positive relationships, and support program goals. Responsibilities include supervising youth, delivering engaging activities, adapting lessons to meet student needs, establishing routines and behavior management, collaborating with teammates, and remaining flexible to assist at different sites as needed. Requires ability to work 1:00–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday, on-site, with no prior experience required and a minimum age of 18; educational requirements include a high school diploma with college credits or an associate degree or equivalent paraprofessional exam. Emphasizes values of transformative leadership, resilience, and a youth-centered approach.
Required Qualifications
- No prior experience working with youth required (entry-level)
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- High emotional intelligence and integrity
- Ability to connect authentically with a diverse group of youth
- Ability to independently supervise a group of youth
- Patience and ability to work under pressure in emotionally charged situations
- Educational Requirements: High school diploma + 48 college semester units (≈2 years college) OR High school diploma + an Associate’s (or higher) degree OR High school diploma + passing score on the district’s Paraeducator/Paraprofessional Exam
- Preferred: Spanish/other languages, experience or coursework in childhood development or education
