Fall Intern: National Security Strategy, Pentagon Budgeting, and the US Defense Industrial Base

Job Summary

Conduct quantitative research and modeling of the US Defense Department's budget, compile research memos on defense recruiting, retention, industrial base, national security strategy, and space policy, and collect or review data on specific defense programs. Contribute language for op-eds and reports published externally and through the American Enterprise Institute. Support the work of Senior Fellows Elaine McCusker, Todd Harrison, William C. Greenwalt, and Nonresident Senior Fellow John G. Ferrari on the Defense Futures Simulator. The program runs for 12 weeks in-person in Washington, DC, with Fall dates running from late September to mid-December.

Required Qualifications

  • experience researching in academic settings
  • experience in previous professional environments
  • experience with Microsoft Word
  • experience with Excel
  • experience with PowerPoint
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher from a top-ranking college or university

Desired Qualifications

  • strong interest in defense and national security issues
  • ability to participate in the program on an in-person basis for 25-40 hours per week
