Fall Intern: Military Strategy & US Defense Budget

Job Summary
Compile background on congressional oversight issues, examine defense-budget investments across services, and draft memos and report text. Collect data, attend congressional hearings on the defense budget, and respond to current events relating to military-strategy issues. Take initiative to independently attack research questions while demonstrating attention to detail in writing and summarizing information concisely. This fall program runs for 12 weeks in-person in Washington, DC, with dates either September 8–December 4 or September 15–December 11, requiring 25–40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
- experience in analytic techniques
- Microsoft Excel
- quantitative or statistical fields
- attention to detail
- ability to write and summarize information concisely, accurately, and creatively
- desire to learn more about defense budgeting, force planning, acquisition, and defense reform
- ability to take initiative and independently attack research questions
- participate in the program on an in-person basis for 25-40 hours per week
- GPA of 3.5 or higher from a top-ranking college or university
