Fall Intern, HLS Guidance Engineer

Job Summary
Model, simulate, and analyze vehicle and spacecraft dynamics, including launch vehicle and spacecraft multi-body dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess contact and clearance during liftoff, separation, and jettison events. Develop, modify, and maintain software simulators, tools, and scripts in Python, C/C++, Matlab, and Simulink to support verification and validation of technical products. Prepare and present technical reports and briefings while creating and reviewing engineering and software documentation. Work independently with minimal supervision in an office and laboratory environment, interacting professionally with co-workers, management, and NASA clients. Requires domestic travel under 15% and attendance from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate student currently enrolled in science, technical, engineering, math or related degree program leading to a BS degree at an ABET accredited institution
- Must be able to provide own transportation
- Have a STAR ID
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Have the ability to multi-task and transition between assignments
- Show initiative, be proactive and detail oriented
- Work independently and collaboratively
- Have completed sophomore year of university studies
- Be in good academic standing
- Maintain an overall average of 3.0
- Demonstrate strong technical aptitude
- Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%)
- Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%)
- Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%)
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%)
- Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%)
- Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%)
- Regular attendance is a necessity
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%)
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required
