Job Summary
Public-interest legal fellowships through ACLUM: Fellows work with the Legal Director and staff on trial-level and appellate civil rights and civil liberties work, and may focus on particular issues or range across areas. While litigation is the strong focus, fellows may also participate in non-litigation advocacy such as public education, legislative work, public speaking, community organizing, and investigation, with the opportunity to tailor proposals to address important civil rights or civil liberties issues. The fellowship supports applicants who are Third-year law students or attorneys, with compensation in the $72,000–$78,000 range and benefits including 401(k) with employer match, health/dental insurance, paid vacation and holidays; position is based in Boston with a hybrid schedule (in-person ~3 days/week) and remote work not deemed a reasonable accommodation.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analysis skills.
- Demonstrated familiarity with civil rights, civil liberties, and social justice issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Self-motivated with proven ability to work well with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong belief in the ACLU’s mission and work to defend and strengthen civil rights and liberties.

- Current or recent judicial law clerks are encouraged to apply, but judicial clerkship experience is not required.
