Job Summary
Fall 2026 State Fiscal Policy Research Intern at CBPP. Interns support the State Fiscal Policy team with tracking state budget and tax developments, summarizing research on state tax and budget issues, and performing data analysis using government and other datasets in Excel. The role involves drafting policy memos and other research materials, contributing to public-facing papers, blogs, and presentations, and participating in briefings and events. Interns may take on a significant research project aligned with team goals and the intern’s policy interests. The internship is remote with a requirement that remote interns be in the U.S.; Washington, DC metro area interns will work on a hybrid schedule with in-person days at the DC office. Core hours are 30-40 per week during Eastern Time, with flexible scheduling as needed. Educational background preferred in public policy, public administration, public health, political science, or related fields; diverse and underrepresented communities experience is valued. International students may apply, but CBPP does not sponsor visas/work permits; U.S. work authorization is required. Internship starts September 8, 2026, and ends December 18, 2026; Application deadline June 19, 2026. Compensation varies by education level from $18 to $22 per hour depending on degree level.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in policy analysis or data analysis (policy, public finance, or related fields)
- Quantitative skills with Excel
- Strong writing skills
