Job Summary
Internship focused on designing and fabricating a showcase prototype enclosure for an advanced intelligent storage platform, with hands-on responsibilities in SolidWorks modeling, prototype fabrication (drilling, routing, cutting, polishing, fastening, assembly), and mechanical analysis (fit, articulation, tolerances, load-bearing structures). Collaborate with engineering teams to translate production designs into show-ready prototypes, participate in design reviews and prototype validation, and work within tight timelines. The role is part of WD's early career development program, targeting candidates at the early stages of their professional career (0–2+ years of experience), with mentoring and structured onboarding.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you at any point in the future
- Experience using SolidWorks, CAD, or similar 3D modeling tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a lab, prototype, or fabrication environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Self-starter with strong initiative and eagerness to learn
- Program management an advantage
