Job Summary
The Government Affairs Intern supports CBPP’s policy work by tracking legislation affecting budget/tax policies and economic security programs, attending hearings/markups, summarizing policy debates, maintaining contact databases, and preparing meeting materials and responses for external partners. Responsibilities include monitoring policymakers, maintaining vote/policy stance grids, and supporting communications and coalition-building activities. Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and motivated to work on public policy issues affecting low-income and diverse communities. Remote internship is available within the U.S. with a hybrid option for those in the Washington, DC area; internship requires availability of 40 hours/week during Eastern Time business hours and completion of application materials including a cover letter, résumé, transcripts, and references.
Required Qualifications
- Strong research, writing, and communications skills
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and juggle competing deadlines
- Understanding of and passion for CBPP’s policy areas and interest in low-income issues
- Desire to learn more about the legislative policy process and advocacy coalitions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
