Job Summary
Provide educational advocacy and supportive services to up to 50 middle school students, monitoring academic performance and tracking NYC DOE data to identify struggling learners. Conduct individualized assistance for 5th and 8th graders navigating school selection, ensuring best-fit schools are chosen while coordinating with case planners, tutors, and foster parents. Secure referrals for IEP evaluations, negotiate with DOE staff for appropriate educational services, and advocate for students facing suspensions or behavioral challenges. Connect students to extracurricular activities and tutoring programs, ensuring school stability during relocations. This role supports children and families across New York City and Long Island at Little Flower Children and Family Services.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree
- Minimum two years in an education-related field
- Have experience in an instructional, administrative, or advocacy-related position
- Good knowledge of the principles and practices of social casework
- Good knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations governing the care and treatment of children
- Must be able to act decisively when necessary for client protection
- Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, relatives, and other individuals
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive case records
- Ability to accurately report the functioning of families and individuals
- Must be able to navigate complex educational issues
- Ability to be resourceful
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to organize their time and prioritize responsibilities
- Ability to effectively collaborate in team settings
- Ability to build relationships with external partners
- Ability to engage students, families, school staff, and other entities
- Ability to advocate for the student

- Ability to use the Online Platform to record progress and create automated reports
- Ability to collect, review, and track NYC DOE monthly data
- Ability to use data to identify struggling students
- Ability to work with traumatized children/Students
- Able to establish trust
- A valid NYS Driver's License if using a personal vehicle or agency vehicle to drive on agency business
- Routine travel throughout the city
