Job Summary
FAIR Lighting Design Assistantship is a professional development opportunity for emerging to mid-career lighting designers seeking hands-on experience in large-scale, rotating repertory theater. Responsibilities include assisting guest and resident lighting designers by taking and tracking detailed notes, maintaining lighting-related documentation (cue sheets, light plots, focus charts, instrument schedules), communicating design updates to the lighting team, coordinating with production staff, attending technical rehearsals and production meetings, operating lighting consoles or remote-control devices during focus sessions, supporting lighting element implementation, and collaborating across departments with directors, stage management, and other design teams. The position emphasizes flexibility and responsiveness to real-time changes, with hours generally 30–40 per week, based in Ashland, Oregon, on-site. Qualifications emphasize an associate degree or equivalent training/experience, proficiency with Vectorworks and Lightwright, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- An associate degree or one to two years of equivalent training and/or relevant experience
- Intermediate working knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright is required
- Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint proficiency is desired
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain a professional demeanor in fast-paced environments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Respect for confidentiality and collaboration across diverse teams
