Faculty Visiting Instructor of Sociology

Job Summary
Teach a variety of sociology courses within an 8-week block schedule, primarily in sociology with some courses contributing to Criminology majors/minors. Responsibilities include holding office hours, assessing student learning, attending department meetings, and contributing to departmental and institutional initiatives. Courses highlighted include Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, Social Problems, and Gender, Race, and Crime. The ideal candidate has experience teaching face-to-face courses, inclusive pedagogy, and is comfortable engaging with student-athlete populations; Canvas experience is preferred. The appointment is a 9-month, full-time visiting instructor position housed in the Department of Psychology & Sociology at Hastings College.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Sociology preferred
- Master’s degree required
- Experience teaching Introduction to Sociology
- Experience with face-to-face courses and inclusive pedagogy
- Experience with a student-athlete population
- Experience with Canvas (Learning Management System) preferred
