Job Summary
The Factory Automation Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes automated systems and robotics within manufacturing environments to enhance production efficiency, quality, and safety while reducing manual labor and downtime. Responsibilities include System Design & Integration (design control systems, automated workflows, and equipment layouts with CAD; integrate machinery with IT/OT), Programming & Configuration (PLC/SCADA/HMI programming for robotics), Implementation & Commissioning (installation, testing, deployment on the factory floor), Troubleshooting (diagnose hardware and integration issues), Optimization & Innovation (apply Industry 4.0 concepts, data analytics, and machine learning to optimize process control), and Documentation & Compliance (technical docs, operator training, OSHA and safety standards). Education and minimum requirements specify a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or Computer Science and a minimum of 5 years in industrial control systems/smart manufacturing; required hands-on PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi), proficiency in industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet), familiarity with robotics, sensors, actuators, and understanding of MES/SCADA systems; plus strong project management and cross-functional communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or Computer Science highly preferred
- Minimum 5 years in industrial control systems and/or smart manufacturing
- Proficiency in automated material handling systems including AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) and AGV (Autonomous Guided Vehicle) integration
- Hands-on PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi)
- Proficiency in industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet)
- Familiarity with robotics, sensors, and actuators
- Understanding of MES/EAP and SCADA systems
- Strong project management and cross-functional communication skills
