Job Summary

Lead the cleaning and maintenance team to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained center through hands-on supervision of day staff, laundry services, and contract cleaners. Implement a fully integrated cleaning program, preventative maintenance, and asset management while recruiting, developing, and scheduling housekeeping staff and volunteers. Coordinate tradespeople for repairs, refurbishments, and capital projects, monitoring budgets and contract compliance to meet YMCA standards. Contribute to the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and lead the Facility Manager Task Force to research best practices and code compliance. Perform the role of Service Leader or Acting General Manager as required. Start September 1, 2026, for a 37.5-hour regular full-time position at the Markham Health & Fitness YMCA Centre.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education or equivalent experience
  • RPA Certificate (Real Property Administration) and/or enrollment in a program leading to a Certified Facility Management designation or equivalent in Building Facility Management
  • WHMIS and Workplace Safety Core Training
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in skilled trades and/or building maintenance
  • Experience in pool filtration/water chemistry
  • Pool Operator Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience in ensuring compliance with related legislation
  • Excellent leadership skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and communicate excellently with members, staff, and volunteers

  • Previous experience in a supervisory position

  • Ability to develop, maintain, and control cleaning, maintenance, and refurbishment plans, schedules, and expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and procedures
  • Ability to implement the approved facility refurbishment program following guidelines set out by the Property Management team
  • Ability to contribute to the leadership of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Ability to ensure the health and safety of employees by implementing safety practices and procedures (including WHMIS) following the Ontario Health and Safety Act
  • Ability to prepare and prioritize capital projects in conjunction with the General Manager, Health & Fitness and the General Manager Facilities, Property Management for the Senior Vice President, Property Management's approval
  • Ability to assume the role of project manager and monitor the budget for capital projects
  • Ability to perform the role of Service Leader and/or Acting General Manager as required
  • Ability to participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and Association and facility functions
  • Ability to self-manage ongoing professional development
  • Ability to actively participate in the Facility Manager Task Force

Desired Qualifications

  • Pool Operator Certificate preferred (certification must be obtained within the first three months)
