Job Summary
Establish and develop scope documents, client specifications, and design requirements to produce construction documents for complex manufacturing tool and facility infrastructure mechanical systems. Conduct technical engineering responsibilities including code assessments, HAZOP reviews, and design oversight for piping, ducting, and equipment heating, cooling, and exhaust systems in densely packed industrial facilities. Collaborate with trades, system owners, and the client to understand site systems for upgrades, interpret P&IDs and layout drawings, and provide design options while managing cost, schedule, and scope. Oversee engineering and construction for facility mechanical systems including HVAC, process cooling, wastewater, and fire protection, supporting both retrofits and new system installations. Perform field visits and walks at the active client site in Wilton, CT, requiring the ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, and work in small spaces.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- At least 10 years of practical application of mechanical facilities design engineering, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing, and related mechanical facilities systems
- At least 5 years of design project delivery processes experience
- Solid knowledge and application of the mechanical requirements per ASME and ASME B31.3, building codes, fire codes, and other related standards, such as ASHRAE
- Solid knowledge in practice and procedures for specifications and selection of all types of mechanical equipment and components
- Experience reviewing vendor submittal packages against client requirements and specifications
- Field experience interacting with subcontractors and construction personnel
- Must be willing to commute to the site Monday-Friday during normal business hours—nominally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm—with some flexibility based on the ability of the site to support and employee preference
- The applicant must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks, work in small spaces, and lift and carry up to 25 lbs
- The applicant must complete a background check and drug screen and be fully authorized to work for any client in the United States. The company will not sponsor or continue a visa for this position.
Desired Qualifications
- EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- 5 years of experience as a facility engineer
- Working knowledge of design-related deliverables, such as P&IDs, PFDs, Details, equipment plans, etc.
- Proficient working knowledge of design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit or BIM360
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Forward-thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
- Passionate about buildings and construction
