Job Summary
Facilities Operator II at Scripps Research provides hands-on duties maintaining, installing, altering, and repairing building systems including boilers, chillers, pumps, electrical and fire alarm systems. The role conducts daily rounds, responds to emergencies, analyzes problems, interprets blueprints, coordinates with facilities staff and contractors, and performs routine maintenance tasks. Proficiency with CMMS/Building Automation Systems, strong safety practices, and the ability to lift heavy objects and work across shifts are required. Strong emphasis on coordination with utilities, contractors, and internal teams to ensure uninterrupted facility operations; prior experience with chiller/boiler systems and mechanical maintenance strongly encouraged.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience maintaining, repairing and installing mechanical systems
- Chiller and/or boiler experience in institutional, commercial, or industrial facilities
- Experience with building management software/CMMS
- Requires professional interpersonal, communication, and written skills
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds and use hand tools
- Valid driver license
- Shift work with occasional alternate shift coverage
