Job Summary

Fabricate prototype components, assemble systems, and perform preventive maintenance on lab equipment while organizing workspace in an R&D environment. Operate manual tools including bandsaws, lathes, and welding equipment; run FDM and SLA 3D printers with post-processing; and execute finishing tasks like coating and painting. Review CAD models to determine fabrication methods and provide input on design constraints. Perform electrical work such as soldering and wiring harnesses, conduct equipment troubleshooting, and assemble/install components as projects require. Create and review lab documentation. This hands-on mid-level role involves diverse project-based workloads for a technician with 2 to 5 years of experience. Located in Saline, Michigan, this position supports Ford Motor's R&D efforts in mobility and sensing technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree (or equivalent experience) in Advanced Manufacturing, Fabrication Technology, or similar program
  • 2 to 5 years of related working experience
  • Solid mechanical understanding of tools, machines, designs, fasteners, functionality, etc.
  • Proficiency in CAD
  • Commitment to following safe operational procedures and PPE requirements
  • Ability to apply existing technologies and creative problem-solving techniques to unfamiliar challenges
  • Interest in learning new things
  • Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to safely walk and stand for extended periods of time, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as necessary
  • Candidates for positions with Quantum Signal AI must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with CAM pathing
  • Experience with CNC 3-axis mill, CNC plasma cutter, or CNC router
  • Knowledge of 3D printing and related software
  • Experience with pick and place machines
  • Work or hobby experience with reverse-engineering
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts
  • Experience working as a member of multidisciplinary teams
