Job Summary
Operate extrusion equipment to produce pipe to exact specifications, measuring dimensions with micrometers, O.D. tapes, calipers and tape measures. Package units, identify non-conforming products, and make minor adjustments to equipment. Read work orders, setup dies/heads/tooling on the extruder, and adjust speed, heat and pressure. Start and monitor machines, troubleshoot extruder, downstream and material handling equipment, inspect output for specifications, and recommend improvements. Prepare daily production paperwork, maintain safety and cleanliness on the production floor, and be able to operate a forklift daily. May require overtime or call-in and there are no supervisory responsibilities unless assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or six to twelve months related experience and/or training
- Forklift Training Certificate
- Read and interpret work orders to determine machine setup and production methods
- Prepare specification and daily production paperwork; neat and accurate
- Set up dies, heads and tooling onto extruder
- Adjust controls to set and regulate speed, heat and pressure of machines
- Start machine and observe operation to produce pipe to specifications
- Troubleshoot extruder, downstream and material handling equipment
- Inspect items produced for specifications
- Recommend methods to improve production methods and equipment performance
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and safety
- Operate forklift daily
- Overtime and/or call-in may be required
- Be aware of safety and housekeeping on production floor
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to follow supervision and direction
