Job Summary
External Manufacturing Manager responsible for end-to-end outsourced manufacturing lifecycle, including supplier selection/onboarding, production planning, execution, and continuous improvement. Own relationships with contract manufacturers, balance supply/demand/inventory/capacity in a fast-growth startup, and coordinate cross-functionally across Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain. Develop short- to mid-term supply plans, translate demand signals into material and production plans, monitor readiness and capacity, and adjust plans for rapid growth or disruption. Manage inventory targets, obsolescence, and KPI tracking (on-time delivery, yield, scrap, forecast accuracy). Support NPI and scale-up at external manufacturers; ensure transfer of design intent and manufacturing requirements; lead process development, validation, and production readiness. Build scalable manufacturing workflows, support ERP/MRP integration, and provide clear updates to leadership. Travel up to 50%. Location: Woburn, MA with remote option in Pacific Time Zone; full-time with compensation $120k–$150k plus equity and benefits. Requirements emphasize a bachelor’s degree, 7–10 years in related roles, 3+ years managing contract manufacturers, strong ERP/MRP expertise, data-driven approach, and experience in fast-growth/high-tech environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related technical field
- 7-10 years total experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or operations
- 5+ years in supply chain, materials, or production planning
- 3+ years managing contract manufacturers or outsourced production
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
- Data-driven mindset with strong Excel skills
- Experience in high-tech startup/scale-up environments
- Experience with supplier qualification, quality systems, and external audits
- Knowledge of BOMs, routing, lead times, MOQ, capacity planning, and inventory management
