Job Summary

Teach up to 14 contact hours of general biology courses, including Introduction to Biology and Principles of Biology, while delivering well-prepared lessons and developing clear grading practices. Hold weekly on-site office hours and engage in regular communication with students and staff via college email. Demonstrate excellence in teaching by encouraging critical thinking, modeling professional ethical behavior, and interacting effectively with diverse populations. Take part in advising, mentoring students, developing curricula, and attending faculty meetings as needed. Submit all academic paperwork and grades by posted deadlines. This part-time role reports to the Science and Math Department Chair at SUNY Sullivan, a top-tier community college in New York offering over 40 degree programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred; or Bachelor's degree in Biology and 6 years or more experience in the field
  • Teaching experience, preferably in the community college setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds and learning styles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively learn new technologies (learning management systems, online tools, etc.)
  • Familiarity with a breadth and depth of technologies, as applied to specific classes
