Exterior Module Lead Engineer (Lighting)

Job Summary
Lead the design, development, and validation of automotive lighting systems including headlamps, taillamps, and interior lighting. Oversee product life cycles from concept through production launch while managing budgets, timelines, and performance metrics. Collaborate with suppliers, styling, and engineering teams to define requirements, ensure regulatory compliance with standards like FMVSS and ECE, and integrate solutions into vehicle platforms. Evaluate new technologies such as LED, OLED, and adaptive lighting. Mentor a team of lighting engineers, support root cause analysis for system issues, and prepare technical documentation and design guidelines. Prepare standards and lessons learned documents. Manage cross-functional projects and ensure on-time delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 9+ years of experience in automotive lighting design and development
- Strong knowledge of lighting technologies, regulations, and manufacturing processes
- Proven leadership and project management skills
- Experience working with CAD, simulation tools, and lighting software (e.g., CATIA, LightTools, LucidShape)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and cross-functional teams
- Experience working with global automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers
- Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture and CAN/LIN communication protocols
- Knowledge of thermal management, optics, and material selection for lighting components
