Job Summary
Lead exterior plastic development for bumpers, grilles, trims, and ornamentation from concept to launch, managing DFMEA, DVP&R, PPAP, and APQP processes. Drive material selection for thermoplastics and oversee injection molding, gas-assisted, and 2K molding operations while troubleshooting defects like warpage and sink marks. Conduct validation testing for impact performance, environmental aging, and surface finishes, ensuring compliance with FMVSS, ECE, NCAP, and IIHS standards. Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, and supplier teams to optimize cost and manufacturability. Requires 10+ years in automotive exterior plastic; located in Technopark Tower, Gia Lam, Ha Noi.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in automotive bumpers, grilles, trims, ornamentation parts and plastic shields
- Strong knowledge of technologies, regulations, and manufacturing processes
- Proven leadership and project management skills
- Experience working with CAD, simulation tools, and software
- Experience working with global automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers
- Problem-solving mindset with structured root cause analysis (5Why, Fish-bone)
- Innovative thinker, balancing design intent, manufacturability, and cost
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Deep knowledge of Class A surface management for exterior ornamentation
- Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA V5) and tolerance stack-up for precise fit & finish
- Expertise in DFMEA, DVP&R, PPAP, APQP for plastic parts
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastics (PP, ABS, PC+ABS, ASA, PMMA, PA6, PC blends)
- Expertise in injection molding, gas-assisted molding, 2K molding, insert molding
- Familiar with painting, chrome plating, hot stamping, laser etching, PVD, hydro-graphics for ornamentation parts
- Experience with recycled and sustainable plastics for light-weighting and eco-compliance
- Understanding of mold design, tooling, cooling, gating systems
- Troubleshooting warpage, sink marks, weld lines, flow marks, surface defects
- Experience in robotics & automation in injection molding lines
- Knowledge of process capability (Cp, Cpk), SPC, and Six Sigma tools
- Bumper impact performance (FMVSS, ECE, NCAP, IIHS, ISO)
- Environmental validation: UV, humidity, heat aging, thermal cycling
- Scratch, mar, chemical resistance, and adhesion tests for surface finishes
- Fit & finish audits for exterior trims and ornamentation parts
- ADAS integration and requirements
- Interface with design studio, body engineering, lighting, and safety teams
- Collaboration with suppliers, mold makers, and Tier 1 manufacturers
- Cost optimization through VA/VE and DFM (Design for Manufacturability)
- Familiarity with new technology and trends for the future
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and cross-functional teams
- Effective communicator across engineering, manufacturing, and styling teams
