Job Summary
Experienced Elementary School Teacher to join BTWA ES in New Haven, CT. Responsible for delivering standards-aligned instruction across core subjects (literacy, math, science, social studies), differentiating for diverse learners (including ELs and students with IEPs), using formative and summative assessments, incorporating culturally responsive practices, and accelerating growth through blended learning and small-group instruction. The role emphasizes collaboration with colleagues to refine curriculum, analyze student data, and ensure ongoing student success; partnership with families for goal setting and home support; and leadership in classroom culture, routines, and school-wide initiatives. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in elementary education, valid Elementary Education certification, 2–3 years of teaching experience, effective communication skills, and a commitment to equity, youth development, SEL, and restorative practices. Facilities leadership in homeroom/advisory, participation in weekly PLCs, and contribution to professional learning and school culture are included.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in elementary education or a related field
- Valid teaching certification in Elementary Education (CT certification or eligibility for reciprocity)
- At least 2–3 years of teaching experience
- Ability to create a classroom environment in which students feel safe, supported, and challenged to engage deeply in meaningful work
- Strong sense of reflection and personal accountability for student growth, achievement, and experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, youth development, social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Deep alignment with the mission and values of ECS and BTWA, including a resolute belief in the potential of every student
