Job Summary
Install, repair, and restore natural slate, synthetic slate, and architectural shingle roofing on residential, commercial, and historic properties across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Cut, fit, and lay slate to proper head lap and exposure, matching replacement material on aged roofs by quarry, color blend, and weathering pattern. Tear off failed roofing, prep substrate, and install underlayment per manufacturer and National Slate Association specifications. Work alongside the specialty metals team on copper flashings, ridge caps, and snow guards. Set up scaffolding, roof jacks, and fall protection on steep pitches while maintaining an OSHA-compliant job site. Read project specifications including historic preservation standards. This safety-sensitive role requires working at heights over four feet and operating power tools. Candidates must lift 75 lbs in all weather conditions. Master Pro Certification is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on slater experience with natural slate, synthetic slate, or steep-pitch shingle roofing
- Working knowledge of slate types (Vermont, Buckingham, North Country, Spanish, Welsh) and how they age
- Comfortable on steep pitches with proper fall protection
- Able to lift 75 lbs and handle physical labor in all weather, year-round
- Valid driver's license
- Able to communicate safety information in English
- Must pass drug test and physical
Desired Qualifications
- three or more years preferred
- Experience with copper or specialty metal flashing
- Master Pro Certification, NRCA ProCertification, or equivalent training
