EXPERIENCED RIGGER

Job Summary
Riggers operate cranes and forklifts in Newport News Shipbuilding, moving and mooring ships between dry docks and piers, and handling components from pipes and valves to large machinery. They must calculate weight and center of gravity, determine lift-point capacity, and select appropriate lifting gear. They erect, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding, manage tools, and install/maintain ventilation equipment onboard ships. The role requires the ability to work at extreme heights or in confined spaces, lift 40 lbs, pass a respirator fit test and a Physical Agility Test, and meet a one-year minimum Rigger experience. Relocation is not offered; telework is not available. US citizenship is required for this position. The work schedule is shift-based as production needs.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship required
- minimum of ONE year of experience as a Rigger
- Must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces
- Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test
- Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs
- Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test
- Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred
