Job Summary
The Experienced P&C Field Services Technician performs assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations. Responsibilities include on-site hands-on protective relay testing, documenting site activities using digital tools, and providing support to field teams. The role requires a high school diploma, 7 years in the electrical testing industry, and expertise on various relay systems. The technician must ensure compliance with safety protocols, maintain project documentation, and support project leads while mentoring junior technicians.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry
- Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays
- Technical skills related to protective relays including relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices
- Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures
- Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects
- Experience using technical software for testing purposes
- Experience with reading and understanding electrical drawings
- Physical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions
- Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and maintain accountability in the field
- Reliable, punctual, with the ability to work independently or with a team
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays
- Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers
- Current OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
