Experienced Generator Technician (Travel Required)

Job Summary
Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel and natural gas generators, including automatic transfer switches, control panels, and fuel systems. Conduct operational testing such as monthly load transfer tests, annual load testing, and three-year duration tests per NFPA 110 standards. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system faults while maintaining accurate records in the CMMS. Coordinate with vendors for major repairs, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure compliance with air emissions permits and safety protocols. Travel extensively (up to 75%) to multiple client sites within the region for emergency response and scheduled work.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in generator maintenance and repair, including diesel, propane and natural gas systems
- Proven experience with generator controller software and associated licensing (or ability to receive licensing) when required
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 110, manufacturer maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Ability to perform load bank testing & thermal inspections (if requested), and fuel / oil sampling for analysis by a 3rd party
- Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems, including ATS and control panels
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 75% travel)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in various environments (mechanical rooms, rooftops, outdoor enclosures)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- OSHA safety training
- EPA Section 608 certification
- Confined space certification
- Fall protection certification
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
