Job Summary
Advise clients on federal and state environmental regulations, including CERCLA, CAA, RCRA, and NYC Local Law 97, while representing them in permitting, compliance, and enforcement matters. Structure, negotiate, and close complex commercial real estate transactions by leading due diligence, drafting environmental provisions, and analyzing technical reports for mergers and acquisitions. Manage permitting and approval processes for energy, infrastructure, and development projects, collaborating with developers, lenders, and stakeholders to evaluate risks and project feasibility. Provide strategic guidance on remediation, carbon markets, and energy transition initiatives across New York and Connecticut offices. Minimum 1800 annual billable hours required; salary ranges from $160,000 to $250,000 based on location and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience practicing U.S. environmental law
- Significant experience in energy, infrastructure, or large-scale development projects
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Minimum annual billable requirement of 1800 hours
- In-depth knowledge of NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, ESA, UIC, and related environmental permitting and regulatory frameworks
- Experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated environmental contracts and transaction documents
- Ability to analyze technical environmental data and advise clients on legal and business implications
- Experience managing regulatory timelines and coordinating with governmental agencies, consultants, and project teams
