Job Summary
Conduct and manage student groups using careful supervision to promote social, emotional, physical, and academic development for PreK through 8th grade. Provide active learning and enrichment activities aligned with the District Program Plan while maintaining an organized classroom environment. Communicate positively with parents and staff regarding student progress and utilize established methods to monitor students during arrival, departure, transitions, and field trips. Prepare and distribute nutritious snacks in a sanitary manner and provide basic first aid, CPR, and AED as needed. Submit required First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and NCLB qualifications during the application process.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of high school or equivalent
- Prior experience working with youth
- District Paraprofessional Proficiency Exam certification mandated by the State of California for Instructional Assistants
- Possession of an associate degree (AA)
- Completion of 48 college semester units
- Completion of a District-approved proficiency test
- Twelve (12) semester units in early childhood education, including units in child development, child-family, and community
- Child Development Associate Teacher Permit
- Child Development teacher Permit
- Child Development Master Teacher Permit
- Influenza immunization (or current proof of vaccination between 8/1 - 11/30)
- TdaP immunization (or proof of vaccination within the last 10 years)
- MMR clearance (or proof of vaccination / immunity)
- Possession of First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate issued by an authorized agency
- General developmental stages and behaviors of students
- Developmental and behavioral characteristics of students with special needs
- Proper handling techniques of (bio)hazardous materials
- Current computer operations
- Use correct grammar and spelling in oral and written communication
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships
- Validate and motivate students per program guidelines
- Meet scheduled timelines
- Work effectively with constant interruptions
- Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds such as playground equipment and instructional materials
- Occasionally team-lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, to reach materials
- Reaching at and above shoulder level for supplies and other equipment
- Gripping to manipulate objects and fine finger dexterity
- Various levels of standing, sitting, and walking
- Hearing and speaking to communicate with intermittent background noise
- Visual acuity to read documents and computer screen
- Potential for contact with (bio)hazardous materials
